Acting Freedom of Information Commissioner
Sally Winton was appointed Acting Freedom of Information (FOI) Commissioner on 27 June 2017. Prior to this, Ms Winton held the role of Acting Assistant FOI Commissioner since 4 October 2016.
Ms Winton has more than 11 years experience working across Commonwealth and State government agencies, providing legal and policy advice on a wide array of issues, including information law, administrative law, criminal law and law enforcement.
Prior to commencing with the Freedom of Information Commissioner’s Office, Ms Winton was an in-house lawyer with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, specialising in matters such as public interest immunity, freedom of information, and the exercise of coercive powers.
Acting Assistant Freedom of Information Commissioner
Joanne Kummrow was appointed Acting Assistant Freedom of Information (FOI) Commissioner on 2 August 2017.
Ms Kummrow was admitted to legal practice in 2002 and has been employed in senior legal roles at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office (VGSO) for more than 10 years. She is also accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria as a specialist in Administrative Law. Ms Kummrow brings with her an in depth knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and its application, having worked on a large number of FOI advice and review matters while at the VGSO. With her background in Administrative Law, Ms Kummrow also has significant experience and, is committed to, good decision making.
